5 - Lothlorien and Redhorn Pass

Saturday's expedition What happened and some things that did NOT happen

Questars,

Some things that did NOT happen:
Ariel did not set any Mallorn on fire. Aldurienne did NOT start running around in a panic crying "Oh the Humanity!" Mark did not rip his DM screen in half crying "Ariel! I cannot believe you just trashed my entire campaign!"

Some things that DID happen:
We met with Celeborn, Legolas, Radagast and many other high ranking elves. We met the female elf whose husband owned the locket we have. ( I cannot remember her name ) We returned the locket to her. She then asked that we escort her through the Redhorn pass to the west since she wants to leave Middle Earth now that her locket has been returned. We agreed to do so.

The party managed to slip past some giants having a snowball fight across a huge crevasse that we just happen to be walking along. Pass without Trace spell allowed the party to sneak by. We were able to drop the Lady Elf off at the appointed place, safe and sound.

We then followed that same path back to Lorien and on our way discovered a small cave we had not noticed before. We had to crawl to enter the cave where we found nothing, but as we began to crawl back out, a Yeti started attacking Farin whose brave dwarven head was the first one to exit the crawlspace.

After a brief (but intense) battle we managed to slay the evil Yeti. How do we know it was evil?... It attacked us, so by default it is automatically evil! Don't believe me? Well I skinned that wicked beast and have it's stinking hide as proof! (I am thinking a Yeti skin cloak is not just high fashion but may be enchantable as well) Using the spell "Spider Climb" Wynfar was able to find the Yeti lair about 100 ft up the side of the mountain where we gathered some gems, a scroll of Bull's Strength and a wand of "Color Spray".

We managed to make it back to Lorien with no further incidents. We asked Celeborn and the other high elves about the young white dragon that is demanding "protection" money. Unfortunately they weren't really able to add anything to what we would learn from looking them up online.

Questars,

Note that Farin was killed (not permanently) by said Yeti. If that is not the pure definition of evil, I don’t know what is. Including the additional hit points I was given and 2 heals I took 105 points of damage.

Jon,
I think Farin would look very fashionable in a Yeti skin hat. See the hat my cousin Bofur wears in the hobbit movie.

Hail, Questars!

For experience, all characters get +0.05 (1/20) levels for audience with Celeborn. Those on the mission through Redhorn Pass gain +0.1 level (for a total of 0.15 for the venture).

Treasure-wise, in addition to a Wand of Color Spray, Potion of Healing and a Scroll of Bull’s Strength (note: this has been changed to a potion, since it is D&D 3.5 spell and not 5e), Also, was a very rare royalty quality 6000 gp sapphire (large, likely dwarven crafted, non-magicable jewel, and 100+200 gp worth of 2 other gems. Additionally, Irimë the female elf Singer who the party guided across the Pass awarded 1 Inspiration to the party (effective for those who were without an Inspiration).

Bull’s Strength (3.5) scroll potion: The quaffer becomes stronger, granting +4 to Strength, adding usual benefits to melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls and Strength ability checks.

Celeborn conveyed much of his knowledge and foreknowledge, and the Questars’ future guardianship of the Woods as the Elves migrate West. Key point from Celeborn:

We Firstborn are witnesses of thousands of years of history and life from the earliest ages.
We have much joy and we have much suffering and grief.
Time and again we have seen the greatest evil rise and return.
It will not be long before there are almost none of our kin live here. I will soon leave for the Last Homely Home to live with my kin there for a while. For we Firstborn, a “while” could be half a century, as such time as we have missed the Lady of the Wood.
During this Age, you and your kin will be the Custodians and Protectors of our Legacy here. (Aldurienne)
The Fall of the Necromancer has left a power vacuum and a Curse.
All kinds of malevolent creatures are spontaneously arising in greater numbers to fill the vacuum and create chaos.
Dragons in the North are migrating. The white dragon troubling Dwarrowhall is not by coincidence.
History has shown us that men themselves can be prone to evil.

Now, about the Locket. The Locket was crafted in the Second Age by Tandoril Adan and other fellow Guild craftsmen so that he could be in contact with his wife Irimë while he was away from their home in Ost-in-Edhil. Tandoril would open the locket speak her name and they would see each other. Then Irimë would sing an enchanted Song which brought them together in virtual presence for a short time. Tandoril was a valiant Galadhrim and of the Gwaith-i-Mírdain (the Elven magic forging craftsmen’s guild that ultimately forged the Rings). He perished during the War of the Elves and Sauron in SA 1697 during the Sack of Eregion. Irimë had been waiting to travel West until after the Locket was eventually found (now many centuries later).

Irimë is among the first of the Firstborn, born during the Years of the Trees (which precedes later Ages), daughter of Finwë and Indis. Irimë is a Song Spell Weaver, capable of casting Freespell through enchanted Song. (Estimated 5e level: 12-18).

While the party rests and camps out in the Dimrill Dale, the Envoy (Glondahl) meets you passes along some information regarding what a “typical young white dragon” might resemble, although he warns that each one is different and unique. He also warns that the odds of finding its lair, much less getting inside it, is very slim indeed. Additionally, the desperate measures this dragon is taking to acquire gold and gems seems to suggest that it’s poor and trying to establish its new turf.

GM’s comment: This is a “book” white dragon at Challenge Level 6 (which is about where it should be). However, there will certainly be variations, including some Adventures in Middle Earth characteristics – the stat-block will differ somewhat from what you see here. So, don’t take the AC/HitPts/Attacks etc. literally, but use it as a guideline.

We’ll be having a weekday session here in Bloomington and then likely hold a major group session at Tony’s (if he’s willing and we can work out a date, 2-3 weeks down the road).
