A Mindflayer is a Terrible Thing ... So We Wasted Them

Post by Prill »

Finally the Questars felt up to the task of taking on the dreaded Mindflayers. What little we knew about their lair was greatly enhanced through the use of True Seeing warpaint to all Ariel to see secret doors through her clairvoyance. The mental ability of the Mindflayers likely detected us pretty quickly, but as we discovered through the hour of True Seeing, there were only three Flayers so they did not jump us right away. I say only three, because the lair these three built looked like it was intended for 12. Fingilote, either with Aldurienne's help or Enhanced Ability from Dr. Zook, methodically removed the traps and picked the locks of all of the doors. Okay that first door, well. In true Questar fashion, Farin decided to remove the Glyphs the old-fashioned way by making sure that he triggered them and took the effect. As the Questars neared the back of the lair, the Mindflayers jumped to action and peppered the party with area mind effect blasts. Fortunately, Theo Bard of the Realm had woven a song of hope around acting as a beacon for the favor of the gods which gave us advantage against the evil infiltrators and made all of our healing as effective as possible. Despite Farin not getting a shot until he delivered the killing blow on the last standing Flayer, the part prevailed. The treasure was uncovered and a lost Gondorian artifact was recovered along with a gem that will assist the Questars in building the lair we have often discussed.
