Background
Homer Folkor was born in the Great City of Alexandria. His parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters are all tailors of some talent. His mother, Loopmottin, and father, Namfoodle, are leading members of the Folkor Clan. Folkor-made items (like other clans in our guild) are high quality and tend to be made at the request or requisitioned by individuals considered to be upper-middle class, at minimum. In addition to his parents and siblings the clan boasts a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandmother, the last matriarch of the family, died when Homer was a baby – nearly 40 years ago. The family has not had a leader, per se, since, but really has not needed one. Even when there is a matriarch or a patriarch, decision making is largely democratic anyway. When it is necessary for the clan to have a designated representative the responsibility has most typically fallen on Loopmottin. For instance she represents the clan in the Guild. A master tailor, she also has minimal proficiency in magic use. When her youngest son was but 6 she recognized his proficiency in the Wizarding arts. It was then that Homer’s parents began investing in his future.
Almost immediately and very quickly Homer learned his first cantrip: Mending. He was a valued member of the clan and a Tailor-in-Good-Standing for many years in Alexandria – beginning shortly after he turned 6. All through his youth his parents invested in a variety of schooling for him. They felt Homer was so gifted that one day he could perhaps unlock advanced crafting magick.
Homer’s life in Alexandria has been very comfortable. Folkor clan-work is technically very good. It is also esthetically pleasing, so much so that Folkor-wear is adored by thousands. Designs by Loopmottin, in particular, are in high demand. Her creations reflect her puck-like demeanor; From the top of her 3-foot tall, blue bouffant to her trend-setting sandals she is a truly unique figure. Homer had every reason to believe that if he were to stay at home that he would one day become Patriarch of Folkor. He envisioned the lavish lifestyle he and his family would lead. He would rub elbows with the cognoscenti of Alexandria. Alas, his love of magick is nearly an obsession. And he knows that if he is to grow as a Wizard he must leave his pampered life.
This decision was met with derision and not a little anger from most of his family/clan, with one important exception: His mother.
